What is an altar?

An altar is a sacred space for your sovereign relationship with the energy of your choosing. Such as ancestors, angels, spirit guides, your higher self, deities, the Divine, etc.

What is a blessing?

A blessing is invoking a high level of love, positivity, and goodness into something or someone.

Therefore, an altar blessing is the act of invoking the desirable energy into your altar which is adorned for the purposes of building a strong and healthy relationship with your spirituality.

How do you do it?

There are many ways and your intuition will guide you. Below is a simple 8 step process you can use.

  1. Sprits a cloth with a hydrosol from essential oils or whichever blend you have. It can also be blessed water, also known as holy water. Clean the space and/or object you're using for your altar with the moist cloth.

  2. Visualize all the colors of the rainbow infusing the altar with their energy.

  3. Expand your aura to encompass the altar so that your energy imprints upon it.

  4. Place your hands on the altar and use your vocal power to affirm aloud what the altar is for. For example, you could say: “This altar is now concentrated and anointed with pure love and light to assist me in my highest good.”

  5. If you have oils you use for anointing, place it on the altar or dap some on your finger then tap it onto the altar.

  6. Meditate and pray over the altar.

  7. Invite in the energies you are using the altar to connect with into your space and ask them to also bless the altar.

  8. Adorn your altar with things that fit its purpose and what your intuition guides you to do. You may ask the energies that blessed your altar to instruct you on what to add.

Lastly, I like to set up an altar at the beginning of a new month or Moon cycle because it uses the energy of nature which is birthing something new. I usually always have something to represent the elements, salt, crystals, sage, sweetgrass, cards, and candles.

As a note, some don’t like sharing pictures or videos of their altars. I suggest asking the altar if it wants to be shared before you actually do. This picture on this article is of a temporary altar for healing that was happy to share its healing energy with all of you.

Happy altar blessing! 🧘
