Article: Benefits of Yoga

The ancient practice of yoga has made its way from Northern India to the West, and it is has become as popular as ever. In nearly any city there’s guaranteed to be at least a couple of yoga studios. Some who have never tried yoga, think it is "just stretches." That could not be farther from the truth. Yoga is so much more than that. There are many benefits that will positively affect your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Many yoga studios offer intro passes that are cheaper than regular passes to entice people to try it out. Sometimes it takes a few classes before it entices someone to continue the practice. We know someone who was one of those people. She tried yoga a few times on and off over the years. It wasn’t until she got a job working in a yoga studio that she finally truly understood and appreciated the practice. Synchronicity!  She was in university, working, and was a part of a few clubs and programs. Balancing all of that and social life was not easy. Her mind was always thinking of what she had to do and planning. When she walked into that yoga class though, she could just leave all of those thoughts at the door. She would spend the time just connecting with her breath, moving her body, and developing an appreciation for the time she’d spend on just herself. Her relationship with herself grew by leaps and bounds.

You may have seen yoga poses across social media and thought, I can’t do that. You can! Or maybe you’ve been inspired by the pics enough to learn how to do it and just need a boost. Let this article serve as a SIGN from the Universe that it is Diving Timing to start.

Pain can come from overuse or underuse of a muscle or specific part of the body. You can start incorporating shorter yoga practices into your days, and sometimes just moving into certain poses will help. If you feel like you slept in a weird way, you might move through a couple of yoga poses in the morning to help your muscles wake up and not continue to be sore. It should be noted though that no pose should be done if there's pain. The end goal should be feeling a little stronger, and pain-free.

Overall, it is obvious why yoga has become so popular in our society. With more people having stress, anxiety, and depression (especially since the start of the pandemic), it is a GREAT idea to start a yoga practice. It can be done from the comfort of one's home, with many online yoga classes offered on apps and websites, or inside a peaceful studio that respects social distancing.

You might find that you prefer in-person to home practices or vice versa at certain seasons of your life. That is perfectly fine. Allow yourself the space to ebb and flow within the cycles and rhythms of life. Sometimes you may want to be surrounded and feel like you’re a part of a collective, and sometimes you might just want to be alone and move your body in your own space.
